November 1, 2022 – The STL is excited to support BusPas, a Montreal-based company, by allowing it to test a new prototype of digital displays at bus stops. With its innovative spirit, STL is proud to serve as a testing ground for the public transport industry, enhancing the customer experience. This also provides a great opportunity to contribute to the development of technological expertise in mobility. Not too big, nor too small, STL is an ideal lab for this type of project, enabling the necessary agility to test new concepts.
Over 25 of these BusPas digital displays will be deployed at select stops on Des Laurentides and Concorde Boulevards.
Real-time Display of Upcoming Arrivals…and Much More! This project aims to test various features and components, including:
- Solar power supply
- Data collection via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, such as:
- The number of people at a bus stop
- Wait times
- Boarding times
- Weather resistance and extreme temperature durability.
We are lending our network for a period of up to 12 months to test the prototypes across all four seasons. It’s important to note that STL stop signs will remain in place for the duration of the project, as the BusPas equipment does not belong to STL and will eventually be removed.
Locations were chosen based on three main criteria:
- High passenger traffic at stops on the two targeted corridors: Des Laurentides and Concorde/Notre-Dame. Together, these two corridors account for nearly 50% of STL’s total ridership.
- Proximity between the new displays for easier maintenance throughout the project.
- Recently removed digital displays.
This is great news for STL customers, who will receive real-time data on upcoming arrivals at even more stops, while also indirectly contributing to the development of future technologies in public transport.
What Will It Look Like?
