October 24, 2023 – The 5th edition of the International Summit on Innovation in Medium-Sized Cities (SIIViM) took place from October 25 to 27, 2023, in Nevers, bringing together private and public stakeholders around the theme “Energy Transformation and Innovations.”
Since the summit’s first edition in 2018, participation from Quebec stakeholders has steadily increased. This year, around twenty Quebec cities were represented, with 13 mayors in attendance. IVÉO also mobilized several organizations and numerous innovative companies to enrich the discussions.
Quebec’s Delegate General in France, Michèle Boisvert, participated in the opening of SIIViM alongside Vietnam’s ambassador to France, S.E.M Dinh Toan Thang Long, and mayors Denis Thuriot and Michel Angers. She emphasized the significance of SIIViM as a key event in the France-Quebec relationship, highlighting the role of cities in addressing environmental, economic, and social resilience challenges.
SIIViM was born from a meeting between Nevers’ mayor, Denis Thuriot, and Shawinigan’s mayor, Michel Angers. The summit promotes innovation in municipal environments, particularly in medium-sized cities, creating economic bridges and uniting numerous stakeholders around a common goal: the economic and demographic revitalization of territories in France and abroad. The event alternates between France and Quebec, and this 5th edition was part of the Franco-Quebec Innovation Year (AIFQ), aimed at strengthening economic development and the sharing of innovations between France and Quebec. The next edition of the Summit will be hosted by the city of Drummondville in October 2024.
