PRESS RELEASE

BusPas Completes Successful Proof-of-Concept in Collaboration with NJ TRANSIT through the Transit Tech Lab
September 26, 2024

BusPas is pleased to announce the successful completion of its proof-of-concept phase working alongside NJ TRANSIT in the  2024 Transit Tech Lab’s Customer Experience Challenge.

The Transit Tech Lab, a collaboration between the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the Partnership Fund for New York City, conducted its largest program to date, with 18 companies, including BusPas, participating in an eight-week technology deployment. The 2024 program focused on enhancing resilience, customer experience, and curb activity management across New York’s regional transportation systems.

Buspas participated in the Customer Experience Challenge, working in partnership with NJ TRANSIT. During the eight-week proof of concept, BusPas integrated NJ TRANSIT real time bus schedules (GTFS-RT feeds) at the West Bradford Avenue bus stop outside NJ TRANSIT Headquarters. In addition, the company developed a pilot scope outlining how their smart bus stop can improve bus service planning and customer experience at six locations:

  • Bus service planning tests include validating that BusPas’s technology can provide better information about customer wait times, shelter damage, and obstacles in bus lanes.
  • Customer experience tests include validating that BusPas’s technology can provide audible bus information, real-time bus arrival predictions, detour information, and motion detection lighting.

BusPas CEO Youval Abenhaim stated, “We are incredibly proud of the results achieved through our collaboration with NJ TRANSIT and the Transit Tech Lab. AI-driven solutions at bus stops empower transit agencies to predict demand, optimize routes, and make smarter decisions on the fly. This technology brings us closer to creating transit solutions that are as dynamic as the cities they serve. We look forward to continuing our work with transit agencies to bring these solutions to scale.”

Stacey Matlen, Senior Vice President of Innovation, Partnership Fund for New York City, commented, “We are proud of the benefits the Lab has yielded to date and look forward to seeing how technologies like BusPas can continue to improve customer experience with North America’s largest transit agencies.” ”

This year’s Transit Tech Lab initiative received over 150 applications, with 18 companies selected to test their technologies with agencies such as the MTA, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, NJ TRANSIT, and NYC DOT. The program’s success was reflected in its high Net Promoter Score, with both participating agencies and companies praising the collaborative efforts and real-world impact of the proof-of-concept deployments.
